This 2006 spot for the United Church of Christ was rejected by the networks for having the gall to suggest that the church should not discriminate.

lol which versoin of the bible are thay using i mean so piontless distroting a religouse text to make it more aceptable in modern times when people have the mental ablity to not need a bible to tell them how to get on in a comunity.

At least with the fundies thay are folowing a religouse txt as it is written if your a pikker and chooser your evan more diluded in some respects i mean comon the bible is the word of god who are you to say its wrong .

admitidly there is the fact that the bible is badly written to the piont that it internaly contradicts itself in manny places.

Matthew 5:17-20 - "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell youthe truth, until heavan and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, no the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven."

This is JESUS talking folks. As for what this truely entails, I invite you to read Deuteronomy and Numbers among other for the full details on what the "Law" requires. By the Bibles own words, and Jesus himself no less, you CAN NOT just pick and choose in the Bible if you want to follow it. It's either all of it, or blasphemy.

^Not really sure what the point of that comment was, but anywho...

I really doubt this commercial was banned. Or even caused controversy. Or a second thought.

^You are right MG. The networks refused to air it, which is quite different from being BANNED!1!!

"NBC refused to air the ad because they claimed it violated “our longstanding policy of not accepting ads that deal with issues of public controversy.” CBS also refused, saying, “Because this commercial touches on the exclusion of gay couples and other minority groups by other individuals and organizations, and the fact the Executive Branch has recently proposed a Constitutional Amendment to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman, this spot is unacceptable for broadcast.” ABC allowed the ad to be aired on its ABC Family cable network, but not on ABC itself"

Upvote because *WTF you don't ADVERTISE religion like its fecking soap! (although you should tell this to Scientology too as the seem to think 'find out for yourself' sells their concept)

I have never seen a 'church' advertise

"Come On In! Jesus Is Waiting!" lol - it would fail trade descriptions! Since its difficult to prove 'jesus is waiting'

Anyway, I ramble, *wtf - hahahaaha * cult?!

I'm not a Christian, but this seems to be the best of the mainstream Christian churches. Barack Obama is a member of this church, which makes me feel better about voting for him.

I'd go to this church in a heartbeat. Ejector seats in the pews? Oh, I'm there. Does the holy water basin shoot an oil slick?

I did see this ad on TV, by the way.

Also, I went to the United Church of Christ in my teens (in the 1970s), and they were very accepting of what other churches thought of as fringe stuff at the time.

I think that autistic family that had it's catholic church serve them with a restraining order should pick up and move here.

And taking verses completely out of context and misreading them is why the fundies will never listen to you. The key quote being "not the smallest letter, no the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished." The only interpretation I've ever seen by anyone, fundies, mainstream christians and the entire remainder of the new testament, is that 'everything' was accomplished by the crucifixion. Since almost nobody believes the strawman your tearing down your not gonna change anyone's mind. As an aside, if you're really that mislead on basic christian theology, you may want to avoid using it to attack fundies.
