If you only want videos for the masses then hang your hat at Reddit, or Digg, or Fark, etc. If you want videos for the masses AND videos with limited or niche appeal, then this is the place. Sometimes I think we have too many videos being imported from Reddit, Digg, and Fark. I believe it makes us less distinctive, however I'm only speaking for myself. Regardless of what kinds of videos any one member likes, it's all about people's tastes and the votes. People will post what they want, and people will vote for what they want. That's the basis of how this place works. Outside of porn or snuff anyone can post what they want, and we all have the right to upvote or downvote. You can't make people post more of what you'd like to see, nor can you compel them to vote one way or another.

It's as simple as that. Some members have left here because they stopped liking the video selection, but what are you going to do? Beg everyone to start posting more of what one or two members like?

Sometimes when the Top 15 looks like it was scraped from Reddit I leave for a little while, mostly out of boredom. But then I'll come back, usually because I feel like making fun of @rottenseed's tiny penis. So I guess the community is just as important to me as the videos. And dick jokes.

It is proper you put this in *-commercial, because you remind me of those assholes (albeit employed) who stand on the corner dressed in a jackass foam outfit waving a cardboard sign around.

I'm a daily visitor to Reddit - it's probably become my second favorite community over the years. But I use the "community" term loosely. It's hard to know anyone there. It's more like a beehive with thousands of anonymous bees. Fun place to get honey - but I wouldn't hang my hat there*.

the difference is if the "asshole" had something u were looking for on the cardboard sign you would actually be grateful for it and that person is no longer an asshole but a friendly human sign post.

I come to Videosift for the comments. You get some proper discussion going on here that you don't in other places. I don't frequent Reddit, but from what I saw just then when checking it out, I'd rather not.

I love knowing the regulars here, I love knowing the types of videos that fly here (for better or worse).

I love Reddit. But as Dag says it's huge and you feel dwarfed. I don't even dare post, unless, it's a comment, for fear of being labelled unoriginal or completely cocking up some protocol.

Also while I see the odd good video for posting there it doesn't strike me as being a great video aggregator with the ability to find obscure stuff as well.

I've always felt though that Videosift needs more slicing and dicing tools to allow better filtering and searching. Do that and I think this site becomes unmatched in terms of finding video that you want to see.

Compare to YouTube and it's increasingly unappealing interface. There's a zillion videos on there and it's bloody hard to find the good ones.

I agree with this thread, and joked with dag about talking about this same topic a year ago.

I think videosift should be a reddit account and auto submit any videos in the top15. (or vice versa and scrape any hot new videos from reddit into the sift... I think no one should care that they don't get credit for the latest video in a weekly series of hundreds)

Reddit is a 24-hour-packed nightclub in New York City. Videosift is your favourite pub down the street.

You can get completely hammered at both places, but with one, after you sleep it off, you can go back and retrieve your cell phone. I also included your wallet as well in my metaphor, but then I realized you people aren't THAT trustworthy.
